NFL Star Steps Up for Daddy-Daughter Dance
A Difficult Year for Audrey
In 2021, 11-year-old Audrey Soape from Texas faced a challenging year when she lost her father suddenly, followed by her grandfather’s passing just five weeks later. As a grieving family, they didn’t want any reminders of their loved ones. Audrey found herself without a father or grandfather to take her to the daddy-daughter dance at her school. Holly Soape, Audrey’s mother, didn’t want her daughter to feel lonely and sought a way to uplift her spirits.
A Surprising Dance Partner
Holly reached out to Philadelphia Eagles safety Anthony Harris, Audrey’s favorite NFL player, on social media, asking if he would take her daughter to the dance. To her surprise, Harris responded positively and agreed to be Audrey’s dance date. Dressed in a black suit and shoes, Harris arrived on the day of the dance, ready to make Audrey’s night special.
A Whirlwind Experience
Holly recounted the experience, saying, “It happened fast. He said yes about a week earlier, so it was a whirlwind.” Harris went above and beyond by buying Audrey’s dress, hair, makeup, and shoes for the event. He even arranged for a car and driver to pick her up, ensuring she would have the best time.
A Special Night to Remember
Audrey was thrilled to attend the dance with her favorite NFL player. She said, “A normal player would say ‘I don’t have time for this. I have to focus for next season or the playoffs.’ But he took me, so that was special.” Despite her nervousness around her idol, Audrey enjoyed the memorable evening.
A Mother’s Gratitude
Holly expressed her gratitude for Harris’ actions, saying, “For someone to show up and teach her that people do show up for you, it’s been beyond a blessing.” Harris, on the other hand, relished the opportunity to bring a smile to his young fan’s face, saying, “Enjoy these moments. You never know how long we have on this Earth. Support your loved ones.”
