Homemade Slow Cooker Apple Butter Recipe

Ingredients:

6 1/2 kilos apples, peeled, cored, and sliced
1/2 cup granulated sugar
1/2 cup packed brown sugar
1 1/2 tablespoons ground cinnamon
1/4 teaspoon salt
1 tablespoon vanilla extract

Step 1: Prepare the Apples
Begin by preparing the apples. Peel, core, and slice them into evenly sized pieces. You can choose your favorite variety of apples for this recipe, but a combination of sweet and tart apples often yields the best flavor.

Step 2: Combine the Ingredients

In your slow cooker, arrange the sliced apples. Add granulated sugar, packed brown sugar, ground cinnamon, salt, and vanilla extract to the apples. Thoroughly combine everything to ensure the apples are evenly coated with the sweet and aromatic spices.

Step 3: Slow Cook the Mixture

Set your slow cooker to the low heat setting and let the apple mixture cook for approximately 10 hours. During this time, be sure to stir the mixture every couple of hours for even cooking. As time progresses, the apple butter will thicken and acquire a rich, dark brown color.

Step 4: Blend for Smoothness (Optional)

If you prefer a smoother consistency, use a blender to puree the apple butter until it reaches your desired texture. Exercise caution when blending hot liquids and allow the mixture to cool slightly before blending.

Step 5: Store or Enjoy

Once the apple butter has achieved the desired consistency and color, it’s ready to be enjoyed. Use it as a delicious spread on toast, pancakes, or waffles, or as a flavorful ingredient in various recipes. If you have any leftovers, store the apple butter in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to two weeks or freeze it in small containers for longer-term storage.
