As a talented defensive end, Smith was a key player during his time at West Rowan High School in Salisbury, leading to a successful college career at the University of Arkansas with the Razorbacks.
In the competitive 2014 NFL Draft, Smith was selected in the fifth round by the Jacksonville Jaguars, where he played for three seasons. He continued to showcase his skills across multiple teams, such as the Cleveland Browns, Las Vegas Raiders, and Houston Texans from 2018 to 2021. Despite signing with the Carolina Panthers in 2020, Smith’s role was limited to the practice squad.
West Rowan High School paid tribute to Smith on Twitter, stating, “Chris was an even better person than he was a player! His impact on those around him will be cherished forever.”
The cause of Smith’s death remains undisclosed, leaving the sports world and his former teammates in mourning.
After his impressive high school football career in Mount Ulla, Smith advanced to the University of Arkansas Razorbacks before being drafted by the Jacksonville Jaguars in 2014.
